For me, it succeeded in conjuring up a real sense of the World: an all-embracing World mostly forgotten, and the place we all still have in it.

The Old Ways: A Journey on Foot by Robert MacFarlane
Quite unique in its scope-Macfarlane doesn't just tackle a
literal descriptive narrative and exploration of the, 'old ways,' or
ancient tracks, but highlights paths that we all walk, involving an
extraordinary level of insight-as befitting a senior lecturer at
Cambridge, using poetry and song, and personal accounts, submerging us
deeply into the multilayers of place and time we each spend our lives
passing through.
For me, it succeeded in conjuring up a real sense of the World: an all-embracing World mostly forgotten, and the place we all still have in it.
